Leadership in a Vacuum

In our leadership we often think we see all the opportunities and obstacles, because after all, we are at the center of our ministry. This thinking doesn’t just happen one day; it creeps up on you until it’s just normal. How could anyone see new or different opportunities for us or have a different prospective? When we think like this we get small and we are unable to take advantage of other people’s thoughts and ideas. Collaboration ceases and we are left with only our ideas. The problem here is our ideas are limited to our experiences and no matter how old you are or how well traveled you are you haven’t had all the experiences in the world. Ask yourself, “When was the last time you got someone else’s (someone outside the ministry) perspective on your ministry?  I challenge you to get a new view of your ministry; seek out three people over the next month and ask them what they see and think about your ministry. Ask them what they would do if they were in your shoes. Do this and you’ll get out of the vacuum.
